Today we got to look at an apartment. The one we went to look at got reserved 2 hours before we got there, but we got to look at another one instead and that basically seemed just as good.

The apartment isn’t as I would put it “fucking golden”, but it is definitely livable, and it’s like 15 minutes from school. We probably staying there for a couple of months at least, but will keep our eyes open for better stuff.

If all goes as planned we’ll be moving in tomorrow and then we’ll go to IKEA on saturday to get some stuff to freshen the place up and just.. getting the basics needed to live.

Every waking moment has been spent on studying or finding an apartment, now we’ll save 2 hours of travel-time every day and the active apartment-hunting is over so hopefully I’ll get even more time to study now!

How did you go about finding this apartment?
Everything I’ve seen charges huge amounts for key money, deposit, and paying a Realtor. And on top of that, some don’t even accept foreigners. Then you have to buy an AC unit and a washer since the apartments usually don’t come with them. I just can’t see how it would be cheaper than the dorm after all of that.

Sounds like you’ve been looking for “real” apartments. And then everything you say is true, if you get one of those for a year or more it usually breaks even with a dorm, if you want it to be cheaper you have to stay multiple years.

But; there is another way.. We got our apartment through Fontana. http://www.tokyocityapartments.net/

They have fully furnished apartments and are focused on renting to foreigners. The same goes for http://www.sakura-house.com/ which we’ve stayed with before. They’re very good too but usually a bit more expensive.

In most cases it still won’t be cheaper than the dorm, but it’s not all about the price. Personally I just don’t like living in a dorm. The apartment we have now is like 4k yen more expensive per month.
