On Friday last week I was out shopping with Emma. Walking through a home-decoration store and walking past some printed paintings I thought: “I’d like to commission some artwork, I’d really like to just have some easy way to find and get in contact with artists whose style I like.” I subsequently went home and looked for places you could buy unique art or commissioned art online. Unfortunely, Googling “Buy art online” brings up nothing but spam and crap sites.
If you follow me on twitter (or via the side-bar here on this blog) you might know that I’ve been spending some free time on making an iPhone application. It’s finally in the store and if you want it right now instead of reading this blog entry then go over to www.simplecardsapp.com. I wanted to write a little bit about how this app came into creation, since it’s my first one that I’ve actually put on the store.
I have watched every episode of Grand Designs and it’s a show I really enjoy. It’s basically about people building really fancy dream-houses. While watching I have discovered a small trend. The best houses are the ones that are designed by an architect. It is absolutely possible to design your own house from scratch and project manage or even build it by your own hands, the problem is that the result will suck and even the people who built it will realize it sucks once they fall out of that initial love (I have dealt with this problem many times when attempting to be a webdesigner).
