After we were in Kyoto we took a trip around Hiroshima. Figuring they would have some culture and nice things to see. Unfortunately, we were quite mistaken. Hiroshima is just a regular ‘ol city.
They used to have a lot of nice culture, but the atomic bomb blew it all away. It’s really very sad and I can feel their pain. But I think they made a mistake when trying to rebuild it. We went to Hiroshima castle, the exterior was built as the original, but inside it was all just concrete and metal, really disappointing and it totally ruined the entire feel of the place.
Pretty much all that is older than 1945 is this:
The atomic bomb dome is a great monument to the horrific bombing. But it’s more impressive in picture than in reality I’m afraid.
I like history and I especially like reading about the second world war, but there was very little for me to gain from this city.
It’s like walking into a city that’s 50 years old.
